We Don't Solemnly Swear...We Just Swear

Hey, everybody! Here’s a novel idea!

COULD WE PLEASE STOP $%^@*!# SWEARING?

I’ve been watching more late-night television lately, and—my God!—there are too many bleeping bleeps!

Why do we have to be vulgar to be funny? Don’t get me wrong; Conan O’Brien, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel—they can be very funny sometimes. But I find it more disappointing than entertaining when I see one of them stoop to crude, disgusting humor or “too-bad-for-TV” language to get laughs.

Things weren’t always like this. No, they’ve been pretty bad all my life, or most of it. I’m talking about WAAAY way back in the olden days when there was—liberals gasp!—more CENSORSHIP!!! Yep, liberals are so glad those stupid censors are gone, and so am I! Now when I’m watching comedians on TV I have to change the channel every two seconds because a young viewer is present. That’s really enjoyable!

You know, it really galls me when liberals compare censorship in entertainment to the censorship of oppressive regimes like Nazi Germany. The only people who could possibly compare censorship regulators in the media (regulators like the FCC) to the evil empires that burned books and killed college professors are the same no-brained nut-jobs that call Bush a terrorist.

How many people in this world today have ever seen a Bob Hope movie? No crude humor there! No, he doesn’t swear like a truck-driver (by the way, in today’s vulgarized society, that expression is losing its significance faster than the Cubs are losing games), he totally avoids any crude humor (as all comedians had to back then), and he’s one of the funniest people in the history of, well, history.

Where have all the good, clean, jokers gone? Will they ever return? Will PG-rated humor ever be the norm again?

God only knows…

Have a good one!
