Michael Medved had an excellent idea today on his radio show: A Republican in Congress should bring up a movement to censure Nancy Pelosi (and all other politicians who visited Syria, the Republicans included) for bypassing the President's authority on foreign policy.
Now of course, we know that this wouldn't happen. The Democrats have the majority.
That's why it's perfect. You see, the Democrats have been assaulting the Republicans of late with allegations, accusations, and political cheap shots. The media, like any loyal dog, has run with "issues" like the Gonzales firing occurrence (I call it an occurrence because it's a regular political occurrence, just like when Bill Clinton fired all 93 U.S. attorneys when he became President), and as a result the Bush Administration—and, by extension, Republicans in general—have maintained the vague cloud of ficitional "corruption" that the media has been trying to cast on them for years.
So why, then, is a Pelosi censure-movement a good idea?
Simply because the very possibility that she, the high and mighty female Speaker of the House, could be censured, is humiliating. And with as much unfounded and undue humiliation as the Republicans have been suffering lately at the hands of Democrats, it would help balance the political scales—just a bit—to put this idea out there.
Sure, the media would spin the whole thing as an evil plot to undermine the opposition's success. But what is Pelosi's aim if not the exact same thing? Her trip is driven by a politically-charged agenda, not a Flower Child's desire for peace and love. It doesn't take 20/20 vision to see that.
The very mention of "Nancy Pelosi" and "censure" in the same sentence would be worth it. It's a novel idea. Let's go for it!
Happy Triduum!
